Egg Drop Results

This is a picture of my teacher dropping my egg!

My group had a lot of fun making the parachutes and watching them fall from really high up. We kind of messed up in our design because this is what happened to our egg when it landed:

Even though ours broke we still had a lot of fun and learned a lot. I wish we could do this project again! Maybe I will go home and try it again. Thank you Mr. Dallas for teaching us this lesson on air resistance!

Science Project

Egg Drop

This week in science we are going to drop eggs from really high up on the school. It is our job to make a parachute that helps slow it down. Our teacher told us we are learning about "air resistance." It sounds really awesome, and I'm excited to start. We even get to choose our partners! Below is a list of what we will use to make the parachutes and a list of instructions.

Materials:
  • A plastic bag or light material
  • Construction paper
  • Toothpics
  • Scissors
  • String
  • A small object to act as the weight (for testing)
  • One egg per group

Instructions:
  1. Design your parachute shape
  2. Construct your parachute from desired materials
  3. Cut a small whole near the edge of each side of your parachute
  4. Attach pieces of string of the same length to each of the holes.
  5. Tie the pieces of string to the small object you chose for testing.
  6. Use a chair or find a high spot to drop your parachute and test how well it worked, remember that you want it to drop as slow as possible.
  7. Tie the pieces of string to the egg.
  8. Have the teacher drop from a high area, and see if your parachute works!
